One thing that’s proven tricky in the past when advertising or promoting your event or product (or yourself, if it comes to that) on Facebook has been the virtual seminar. Evinar may well sound like a Arthurian adventure but in this case it’s a rather wonderful event promotion application for Facebook to host any number of live events for your business (ad)venture. Here you can arrange casual hook ups, host group chat sessions and watch promotional videos with your fans and, if you are just running the one Facebook page, it’s totally free. Evinar is a safe and secure app that let’s you host awesome live events on Facebook pages. Whether its a casual meet up, a product launch, a Q A session, a group chat or share videos, photos, docs and slides or even if you just want to watch a video with your fans – Evinar is the perfect place to do it. By keeping your fans and followers interested and informed, Evinar helps you promote your special events, connect with new fans and get more likes. So how is this app different to similar business promotional tools? Well, for a start it features a media rich stage that lets you host your event like a professional performer. You can broadcast live or share videos, photos, slides or docs with your audience and use super cool transitions and animations to make your event stand out and look professional – all done on the fly. Interact with your fans like never before by conducting an open or a moderated chat session where you and your moderators decide what goes public. Instantly publish the event on your Facebook page and let attendees subscribe so you can notify them about your future events. You can then customize and promote your events easily on Facebook and Twitter. There’s even a good array of statistical to analyze how your event has fared in terms of facts and figures and how your audience has reacted to it. Evinar is a crackingly fine and all-encompassing business app for the promotion of your event on Facebook that is as free as a bird if you are a single user with no more than 50 users. Even if you are a major organization it’s still a very cost effective way of getting your message across to your adoring public on all of your events. It also doesn’t harm it’s prospects by looking great and being simple to use. Next time you have something to promote, Evinar should probably be in your thoughts.

There’s always one person in your group of friends who seems to have an opinion on everything. Who’s going to win the election? Who’s going to win the game? Is Prince Harry really Charles’ son? Hang on, how did that get in there? Correctnicity is a crowdsourcing news prediction application that let’s you predict the outcome of any number of events to see how accurate they turn out to be. Not only will Correctnicity measure the king or queen of predictions it will also increase your knowledge of whats going on in the world. All of us make predictions everyday, but until now there hasn’t been a consistent, reliable way to measure how accurate those predictions turn out to be.That’s where Correctnicity comes into play. It asks questions related to the latest news stories and asks you to predict the outcome you think is most likely to occur. Your Correctnicity Score measures the accuracy of your predictions across a broad range of subjects with new questions added daily. So how does it work? Everyday, questions are posted related to the big stories making headlines in the areas of politics, sports, entertainment, technology and more. These questions are objective each one has a clearly defined correct answer and window of time within which you can make and change your prediction. Every question has a short summary with some background about the issues involved, as well as a seed link with further reading to get up to speed on the story. Likewise, after a question expires, Correctnicity adds a closing link to a source related to the correct answer. After a question has expired or events themselves have provided the correct answer, Correctnicity calculates a score for everyone who made a prediction whether they are right or wrong. This score is measured in what is called CX or Correctnicity Experience. Correctnicity is a fun way to increase your world knowledge as you make predictions by answering questions related to the day’s news. Your Correctnicity Score is based on accuracy, time and the votes of fellow users. But here s where it gets interesting. Here is a crowdsourcing app that works on several levels. On the one hand it’s a fun game of one upmanship where you can win points for predicting future events and prove to your friends that you are top dog. But, without a doubt, it also has what some could feel is it’s more interesting side. It increases awareness of world events and, if you wanna be good at it, literally forces the gamer to research their subjects – and that’s gotta be good. So, back to Prince Harry…

Skrittle helps user discover new websites based off the current site they are on and what other similar users like. Have you ever heard the saying that people only use 10% of their brain? It is debated if it is true or not but all that it is implying is that we can be better as people. What we do know is that we probably only use the internet to 10% of its potential. Part of the problem is that we as users don’t know where to look to find better content than we already have. Instead of only going to sites that big companies tell us to go to, we need to actively seek out and spread the word about sites with great content. Skrittle is working to do that and working to help users discover great content on the web.

Say you’re sitting at your laptop, listening to music while responding to emails, writing code, or reading blogs. Then your phone rings, and the typical scramble ensues: You minimize your browser, maximize your music app, and search frantically for the pause button or volume control — all, hopefully, before you miss the call. Sound familiar? That’s a problem that Flutter, a startup in Y Combinator’s latest batch of companies, has solved.

Flutter is an app for Mac that lets you control the play function on Spotify or iTunes by simply waving at your computer. You can watch it in action in the video embedded above. That in itself is pretty nifty — as evidenced by the 11,000 people who downloaded Flutter in the first 11 days it was available, and the 400,000 gestures the app logged from those users. In the near-term, Flutter expects to expand its functionality to control other media apps such as Pandora and YouTube, as well as to other operating systems and devices beyond the Mac.

But the really interesting thing is the company’s long-term vision, which goes well beyond the ability to start and stop a Rihanna song with a wave of your hand. Ultimately, Flutter co-founders Navneet Dalal and Mehul Nariyawala tell me, Flutter wants to power the eyes of our devices — in the same way that Siri functions as the iPhone’s ears.

It’s a big ambition, but it makes a lot of sense. Webcam hardware has become so inexpensive — about 50 cents a pop — one is included in practically any new laptop, tablet or phone that enters the market today. But we really only use them for two purposes: Shooting photos or videos, or video-chatting with others. The guys at Flutter envision a future where we use gestures along with our voices to tell our machines what to do, rather than pressing buttons or clicking a mouse. It’s all about interacting with our devices in a more natural, human way. As an expert in computer vision, Dalal especially is well-positioned to lead this push.

For now, though, Flutter is keeping it simple, trying to make the best tool for easily controlling the music playing on your computer. Maintaining a narrow focus is smart for a tiny six-person startup that’s just starting out. But it’s the long-term potential of the technology and the team that really makes Flutter one to watch.
